Bio
Ms. Renata Spinks currently serves as the Cyber Technology Officer (CTO), U.S. Marine Corps Forces Cyberspace Command (MARFORCYBER). In this capacity, she provides results driven support to the Commanding Major General of MARFORCYBER; leading highly complex and unprecedented problem sets for offensive and defensive cyberspace operations within the Marine Corps Enterprise Network (MCEN) and its portion of the DoD Information Network (DoDIN).
Ms. Spinks brings a unique set of skills to the Corps with almost 20 years of combined military and civilian service experience. As a U.S. Army 44th MEDCOM Combat Veteran (OIF 2003) she served as a Medical Evacuation Specialist for the 28th Combat Support Hospital Fort Bragg, NC; where her first exposure to how critical the Confidentiality, Integrity, Availability and Security of "data/information" occurred. Ms. Spinks built upon her military experience while developing expertise in healthcare information systems, computer forensics, cybersecurity operations and risk management, she has designed and engineered systems used in the financial and investigative arms of the federal government as well as the Intelligence Community (IC).
Prior to joining MARFORCYBER, Ms. Spinks was the Senior Advisor to the ACIO at the U.S. Treasury Internal Revenue Service, the Acting Chief Technology Officer at Millennium Challenge Corporation U.S. State Department, the Special Assistant to the Chief Technology Officer at U.S. Treasury Office of Financial Research; Special Assistant to the Director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and a Criminal Research Specialist while TDY to Cybercrimes Center (C3) for Homeland Security Investigations supporting Human Trafficking and Child Exploitation investigations.
Ms. Spinks earned her Bachelor of Science in Information Systems from St. Augustine’s University, a Master of Science in Technology Management from Florida Institute of Technology and holds several certifications, professional recommendations and awards. She has received several honors: Woman of the Year from the National Association of Professional Women, Outstanding Employee at the US Treasury and multiple DHS ICE Shining Star awards.
Ms. Spinks is an avid community service contributor for women and children who are victims of Domestic Violence and is still very involved in programs that combat Human Trafficking and Child Exploitation. She’s a published author, a STEM Key Note Speaker and Mentor. She is a Louisiana-native who loves New Orleans Saints Football, cooking and as a recognized CIAA Elite Student Athlete----still loves to play basketball.
