Bio
Terita R. Norton is a senior project leader, GEOINT Development Office, Systems Engineering Division. In this role, Norton leads the integration & test and enterprise test activities for a major satellite program.
Prior to this, Terita was a senior project leader, Enterprise Systems Engineering, Corporate Chief Engineering Office. She led the external government-industry collaboration activities, including the Mission Assurance Summit, the Space Quality Improvement Council (SQIC), and the Space Suppliers Council.
Terita joined Aerospace in 1998 as an undergraduate summer intern through the National Consortium for Graduate Degrees for Minorities in Engineering (GEM) Program, and has held positions of increasing responsibility since that time. These positions included, among others, participating as a detailed design engineer for several satellite programs. Prior to her current position, she served as a project engineer in a major communication satellite program. During her six-year tenure with the program, she was the lead for the system integration and test activities, and also served as the lead for several major satellite bus subsystems.
Terita has published several technical papers and has received several commendation letters for her technical contributions.
In addition to all of her technical duties, Terita understands the importance of attracting and maintaining young technical talent and dedicates time to several corporate sponsored committees and programs as well as community organizations. Since 2005, Terita has chaired the Robert H. Herndon Memorial Science Competition inspiring the next generation of future engineers and scientists, and has been an active participant in the Discover Aerospace corporate internship program, and the Aerospace east coast Corporate STEM Initiative Lead. 2003 - 2011 she was the Director of the A-MAN Saturday Science Academy, a weekend program designed to expose students 2nd – 12th grades to engineering. In 2011Terita began supporting the Girls Inspired and Ready to Lead (GIRL), Inc., an organization created to empower girls to be leaders and socially responsible individuals. Since 2013 she has been a guest speaker and camp facilitator at the Pink Hardhat Days for Girls Camp focused on exposing girls to career opportunities in Civil, Architectural and Construction Engineering. In 2015 she was selected to be GIRL Inc. Board of Director. In 2018 she was awarded the March of Dimes Heroines of Washington Technology Award for her work to promote STEM in the community. Terita has mentored and tutored more than 35 students, 17 gone on to college. Of the 17, 11 pursed degrees in engineering or science related fields.
Educational Background
Norton received bachelor’s and master’s degrees in electrical engineering from Florida State University.
