Bio
Dr. Anika Alfred Bissahoyo has over 10 years of experience in managing federal, state, foundation and corporate funding and coordinating programs that support the K-20 pipeline of underrepresented minority students in research careers. She has served as the Director of Research and Sponsored Programs at Bowie State University in Bowie, M.D. since July 2012 and also currently serves as the Interim Director for Title III Administration. Anika oversees the University’s programs for research capacity-building and the expansion of the University’s external contracts and grants portfolio. She also coordinates the Annual Grants Expo and Research Day and co-administers internal grant programs for faculty, staff and student research and scholarship at Bowie State University including the Summer Undergraduate Research Institute. Prior to her appointment at Bowie State University, she served as Director of Development and Proposal Writer at Claflin University in Orangeburg, S.C. and also administered sponsored programs, technology commercialization, faculty development initiatives at Bradley University in Peoria, IL. She currently serves on the Advisory Board for the American Association of State Colleges and Universities’ Grants Resource Center and is an adjunct faculty member in the Department of Natural Sciences at Bowie State University. Anika earned her bachelor’s degree in Molecular Biology and Biochemistry from the University of Maryland Baltimore County and her doctorate in Toxicology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
