Bio
Mrs. Nnenna L. I. Johnson is an Electrical Engineer presently employed by the U.S. Army Materiel Systems Analysis Activity (AMSAA) in APG, MD. Two years ago, she was selected to serve as a Strategic Partner at the Center for Army Analysis (CAA) in Ft. Belvoir, VA, and recently due to her stellar work performance, she was granted a five-year provisional extension at the agency. She has exceptional problem solving skills, and greatly enjoys utilizing network and decision analysis to evaluate military studies at large. Mrs. Johnson is an expert in providing insightful solutions to challenging obstacles by effectively communicating results within technical and non-technical environments throughout the federal government.
Mrs. Johnson has a diverse technical, engineering, and analytical background spanning over a 12-year career. Mrs. Johnson obtained a Bachelor of Science in Engineering Physics in 2008 and a Master of Engineering in Electrical Engineering in 2010, both from Morgan State University (MSU). As an undergraduate student, she served as a Clare Boothe Luce Scholar and participated in various research opportunities including: the Science, Engineering & Mathematical (SEM) Financial Awards Program, the SEM Summer Research Program, Research In Science & Engineering (RISE) at Rutgers, and the International Scholar Laureate Program Delegation on Engineering & Technology in China. Post-graduation in 2008, Nnenna became a Chesapeake Information Based Aeronautics Consortium (CIBAC) Fellow. In 2009, Mrs. Johnson conducted research under the Department of Energy Mickey Leland Energy Fellowship. She led a project involving soldier blunt head trauma and suddenly knew that she wanted a profession that would help improve the lives of those who fight to protect our freedoms.
She entered civil service in 2010, and has worked within several different teams at AMSAA. Initially, Mrs. Johnson began as a member of the Target Acquisition Team and remained within this unit for six years. There she led projects that computed the probability of acquisition for detection, recognition and identification using simulation modeling software, and also focused on image sensor analyses. She then shifted over to the Chemical Demilitarization Team for one year, serving as a Lead Test Evaluator for classified weapon systems at demilitarization sites, before transitioning to CAA. Mrs. Johnson currently works in the Operations Analysis Division, leading a study that optimizes future engagements of Senior Leaders in house by prioritizing attributes aligned with the organization’s overall mission. Within this agency, she has also had the opportunity to apply network and decision analysis, campaign wargaming, force generation modeling, and Total Army Analysis, to name a few.
In 2016, Mrs. Johnson became the youngest elected Chair for the Team APG Federal Women’s Program (FWP). She was responsible for reporting to the Installation’s Garrison Commander mandatory engagements for approval and support. Over her two-year term she successfully provided several Professional Development opportunities for over 1000 members of the APG federal workforce, free of charge, along with hosting many other initiatives. Mrs. Johnson worked tirelessly, aiming to motivate women to lead. She continued to encourage women of all ages to shatter the glass ceiling. Professional Development and training exercises are vitally important to Mrs. Johnson. Annually, she challenges herself to take courses to sharpen her analytical and soft skills. AMSAA was so impressed by her commitment to promoting advancement of women in the workplace, that they nominated her for “Woman of the Year.” Following this nomination, Major General Randy Taylor also recognized her remarkable dedication and service. Recently, in October (2018), she became the recipient of the Associated Black Charities (ABC) “Woman on the Move: Women Business Leaders” Award due to her contributions as Chair of the Team APG FWP.
In February (2018), Mrs. Johnson was recognized and honored as the U.S. Army’s “Return on Investment” at the 13th Annual Stars & Stripes Black Engineer of the Year Award (BEYA) Conference Dinner. She now serves as a member of the BEYA Stars & Stripes Committee. Aside from this Committee and the Federal Women’s Program, Mrs. Johnson is affiliated: Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated, Society of Women Engineers (SWE), The National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE), The Morgan State University Alumni Association Board, and Morning Star Baptist Church of Catonsville.
Mrs. Johnson resides in Suitland, Maryland with her husband, Michael. They love to travel internationally, and plan to discover new historic landmarks annually.
