Bio

Matthew D. Reeds embodies the most apical level of service, innovation and dedication to the process of influencing and improving the City of Baltimore. His philanthropic and community service deeds in the City of Baltimore displays a tremendous level of commitment to the improvement of the social welfare for the everyday Baltimorean. As a native born Baltimorean, Matthew Reeds has seen the brightest and darkest parts of Baltimore - his little sister My’zaaih was brought into the foster care system at 9 days old, and officially adopted into his family at the age of 3. From a young age, My’zaaih was diagnosed with autism and suffered from insufficient government and healthcare services in Baltimore. His wonderful mother, Roxanne has been battling sarcoidosis for years, and has also been on the receiving end of insufficient and inadequate healthcare resources in the City of Baltimore. Frustrated by the lack and utter neglect of citywide resources, Matthew Reeds started the Reeds Autism and Sarcoidosis Fund, a Baltimore based non-for-profit that brings social, financial, and political awareness to autism and sarcoidosis. As a senior undergraduate student, Matthew understood that the City of Baltimore needed a resource to break the socio-economic barriers to lower income communities and their ability to access specialized healthcare and services. Currently, Matthew Reeds is an Associate in the Community Engagement department at Legg Mason in Baltimore, Maryland. His responsibilities including supporting Legg Mason’s core non-profit organizations, assisting the Chief Diversity Officer in expanding the diversity and inclusion efforts of the firm, and helping managing the summer internship and full-time analyst program. As a junior at Morgan State University Matthew donated five thousand dollars to the school in the hopes of encouraging the alumni to contribute more to the university. As a senior, Matthew Reeds was elected to the Board of Regents at his university, serving as a voting board member. At the age of 23, Matthew D. Reeds has become one of Baltimore’s rising youths in the areas of philanthropy, business, and community service, recently named to Baltimore Business Journal as a Person on the Move. The Reeds Autism and Sarcoidosis Fund understands the necessity to partner with global leaders while identifying high-impact solutions that can effectively alleviate health disparities while providing individuals the opportunity to live vibrant, productive lives.
